Homemade Beef Lasagna

A perfectly layered, rich, and hearty lasagna with a golden-brown, cheesy top.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Italian herbs.
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup parmesan grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley.
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 0.5 cup parmesan.

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch Baking Dish
  • Large skillet (for sauce)
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Pot (for boiling noodles)
  • Aluminum foil

Method
 

  1. Sauce: Brown beef and sausage with onion/garlic. Add tomato paste and tomatoes. Simmer for 30-40 mins.
  2. Cheese: Mix ricotta, egg, parmesan, and parsley in a bowl.
  3. Layer: Sauce on bottom of dish -> noodles -> ricotta mix -> mozzarella -> sauce. Repeat 3 times.
  4. Top: Finish with a final layer of mozzarella and parmesan.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 30 mins. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 mins until bubbling and golden.
  6. Rest: Cool for 20 minutes before serving.
